The numbers didn’t lie.
No matter how many hours I worked, how much money I invested, or the number of connections I made, my business wasn’t growing.
I couldn’t crack the puzzle.
In theory, I was doing all the right things. I was engaging with my audience on social media. I was taking courses and investing in coaches to gain new skills. I launched new offerings and raised my prices to bring in more money.
Nothing worked. My revenue stayed the same. My audience didn’t grow.
What was going on?
It wasn’t until I enrolled in Denise Duffield Thomas’ Money Bootcamp that I realised what was holding me back.
In her programme, Denise talks about your “energetic income level,” the amount of money you’re allowing yourself to earn.
Once you reach that number (and I had reached it two years ago), you’ll unconsciously sabotage yourself so you’ll never go higher.
Your energetic income level is set by your subconscious mind and the beliefs it holds around money.
In my case, my energetic income level matched the exact amount of money my father was earning in his business.
My subconscious mind had made up a story of how it would be disrespectful for me to earn more than him. Unless I changed that story, my income wouldn’t grow.
Your subscious mind doesn’t only sabotage your finances. It can interfere in every aspect of your life, keeping you from getting the job of your dreams or fulfilling your life purpose.
How do you break this negative pattern? You need to reprogramme your subconscious mind for success and substitute your negative beliefs with empowering ones.
It’s not as hard as you think (but it is a little weird). Here’s how to reprogramme your subconscious mind for success so you can achieve all your goals and dreams:
Conscious VS Subconscious Mind
I know you like to think you’re always in control of your mind. But that’s not how humans have evolved…
Your conscious mind makes up only 10% of your mind. It involves all the things – like feeling, sensations, and memories, that are in your current awareness. Anything you’re thinking of and experiencing right now that you’re paying attention to.
Your subconscious mind makes up for the remaining 90% of your mind. It’s like a sponge that absorbs everything you’ve ever went through in your life. All your memories, emotions, thoughts, skills, and life experiences… The unconscious mind absorbs them all and triggers them when it believes you need them.
An example? When you’re first learning to drive your car, you’re paying attention to every turn of the wheel, pressing of the accelerator, etc… You’re totally present and using your conscious mind.
But as you become more confident behind the wheel, you make these movements automatically. You arrive at the office without recalling every movement you made to control the car and drive it there. Your subconscious mind took over.
In this scenario, that’s a good thing. But other times, this takeover can harm you. Like when your subconscious mind conjures up all the ways you failed in the past to keep you stuck in your current soul-sucking job. Or triggers a panic attack every time a certain smell reminds you of a past trauma.
The subconscious mind is the silent pilot of your lives. The old emotions, beliefs systems, and thoughts stored in there create your current reality.
If you don’t like where you’re at and dream of something better, you need to reprogram your subconscious mind with new thoughts and beliefs. Here’s how:
How To Reprogramme Your Subconscious Mind For Success
1. Visualise Yourself Living Your Dreams
Truth bomb: your subscious mind can’t tell the difference between what’s real and what’s not.
In 1995, researchers asked a group of people to pretend to play the piano. They then compared their brain scans with those of people who played the piano for real. The results? In both instances, the exact same areas of the brain were activated!
You can use this finding to your advantage. How? Visualise your dream life in excruciating detail.
Visualise your dream home. What does it look like? Who are you sharing it? Do you have children? If so, how many? Are you married or single? What does your partner look like? What do you both do for a living? And for fun?
The more specific the vision, the better the results. But don’t just see the pictures in your mind. Feel like you would feel if all that came true.
The goal is to trick your mind into thinking it’s already happening, to prove to it that you can have it. Once your subconscious mind starts believing it, it’s only a matter of time before it comes true.

2. Repeat Affirmations
You didn’t develop the limiting beliefs stored in your subconscious mind in one day or week. They’re the results of messages you picked up over and over again as you grew up.
You can’t get rid of them in a day, either. If you suddenly decide that you’re the most confident person in the world and can accomplish anything you want, your subconscious mind will laugh at you.
That’s why it’s so easy to lose momentum. Maybe you were so fired up as you listened to that Tony Robbins podcast or watched another episode of Marie TV, but two days later, all enthusiasm vanished. Your subconscious mind just didn’t buy into their empowering message. It didn’t hear it enough.
Repetition is key. Just like it takes hundreds of squats to get a firmer butt, you need to repeat those new empowering beliefs hundreds of times in your head before your subconscious mind buys into them.
That’s where affirmations come in. They’re positive and empowering statements you repeat to yourself over and over and over and over and over again.
Make sure they’re realistic, so your subconscious mind won’t laugh at them the first time it hears them.
Instead than saying, “I’m the best writer in the world,” say something like, “I’m a good writer who entertains and inspires people with her work.”
Or instead than, “I’m a millionaire and I live in a beautiful mansion,” say, “I am abundant. The universe always gives me everything I need.”
Can you see the difference?
TAKE ACTION NOW
Think about one or two areas of your life you’d like to change. Maybe you want to switch careers, or fix your money problems, or find Mr Right. Next, write down an empowering and believable affirmation that can help you reprogram your subconscious mind. Write this affirmation down every single morning as soon as you wake up. Repeat for as long as you need to to fully believe it and make it your new reality.
Babies are like sponges. They literally absorb everything they hear, see, and feel – unconsciously.
For the first few years of their lives, children can’t discriminate or choose what they believe in. They absorb whatever their parents or other adults believe about themselves and the world.
It’s during these precious few years that all those limited beliefs that are holding you back now took hold in your mind.
Now that you’re all grown up and you’ve developed critical thinking skills, your subconscious mind isn’t as receptive to picking up new, more empowering beliefs.
How can you recreate that childhood mental state to make it easier to reprogramme your subconscious mind?
Meditation. This practice helps you still the mind, preparing the ground for any new thought and belief you want to implant.
Even just five minutes a day help. Bonus points if you listen to some guided meditations with positive affirmations. Your new beliefs will take root in your mind faster.
P.S. Exercise does the same, too.
4. Behave Like You’re Already Living Your Dream
Your subconscious mind ain’t stupid. It can tell if you really believe you don’t have what it takes to do something.
The best way to convince it you’re dead serious this time is to act like you’re already living your dream.
Let’s say you want to fix your money problems so you can invest in your business. Act like a wealthy person. If you don’t know how they behave, research it.
Sure, you may not have the money right now to buy designer clothes or holiday in Bali. That’s not what I’m talking about. You have to absorb their mentality and act based on their beliefs.
For example, a wealthy person puts aside money every month before spending the rest. Can you automate your finances so that as soon as you get paid, some money is automatically transferred to your savings account?
When you have and act like if you already have it, your subconscious mind will soon catch on. You’ll accomplish your vision – and so much more.
5. Create A Positive Environment
Just because you’re not 3 anymore, it doesn’t mean your subconscious mind has stopped acting like a sponge.
Ever wondered how that ugly Balenciaga bag has grown on you after it popped up on all your fave Instagram accounts?
Repetition. The more often you’re exposed to a certain message/object/stimuli, the more readily you absorb it – without even noticing it.
Watching the news, spending too much time on social media, and hanging out with people who put you down all feed your mind a diet of negativity and no-can-do.
Stop. Just like you wouldn’t eat junk food every day, don’t feed negativity to your mind every day.
Instead, surround yourself with positive people who support you on your journey towards your dreams. Listen to inspiring podcasts. Read biographies of people who have done what you want to do and learn their secrets.
Create an environment that tells your subconscious mind you can do this. Before you know it, it’ll shed its negative beliefs and jump on board.
You’ve got this.
